The Price Of Immortality preview
Julia sped down the highway, sirens blaring. She was ready to answer a call about a drunk man holding his wife and child hostage at gunpoint. There was no time to waste because at any moment, the emotionally unstable man could react instantly. “Take a right!” yelled her new partner, Rodney Wilson who had only been in the West Palm Beach Police Department for 6 months. Julia's cruiser pulled up to a crowd of people that surrounded the front gate of a small house. The house looked badly painted and the vegetation in the front yard looked completely dead and uncared for. Julia hopped out and whipped on her ballistic vest. “Away from the gate!” she shouted through the commotion. Rodney followed behind her. “Stay out here and keep the people calm.” she ordered to her rookie partner. “Where the hell are you going?” he asked. “Inside to stop this lunatic.” Julia replied. “Are you nuts, you're not supposed to do that yet.” “Would you rather this guy put a bullet in the woman and kid?” “No.” “Okay then, I'll just go in and do my job.” Julia said hopping over the short front yard gate. She crept up to the front door. It was open. She entered, her gun drawn and ready. She came into a trashed living room that carried the stench of alcohol and tobacco. As she cut into the only bedroom in the house, there standing in the corner, peering out of the window was the drunk man. He held his wife with his arm gripped around her neck with a gun pointed to her skull. Sitting, crouched tightly in an opposite corner was a five year old little girl. She had tears stained all over her face. Her teary eyes met Julia's. “Help my mommy.” the girl pleaded. As she said that, the lunatic man's head snapped behind him and he faced Julia, who quickly pointed her gun. “You got fucking balls getting in here! You must want me to shoot this bitch!” he screamed angrily, drunk fury gleaming in his eyes. He increased his grip around his wife's neck. “Take it easy pal and let her go.” Julia pleaded calmly. “Fuck you!” he shouted cocking the gun. The woman squealed frantically. “Please help me!” the lunatic man's wife cried. “Shut the fuck up you stupid bitch! She ain't gonna help you!” he screamed into her face. “If you just drop the gun, things will become a lot easier from here, you don't have to do this.” “Shut the fuck up!” the man screamed again.
No need to be rude buddy, don't get too ahead of yourself.” Julia warned. “Are you threatening me you fucking cunt!?” the man shouted, throwing his wife to the floor. He then pointed his pistol firmly at Julia, staring deep into the officer's eyes. “I will fucking blow your fucking brains all over the fucking floor!” he shouted aggressively, coming closer to Julia. Perfect moment. Julia spotted the distance she needed to him to reach towards her. She struck like lightning and grabbed the man's wrist and bent his arm violently, making the man quickly drop the pistol. The man screamed in pain as Julia swung the drunk man to the ground with a modified arm bar. She then slapped handcuffs onto the man's wrists. “You have the right to remain silent!” Raven woke up to the lights flickering on inside a large metallic lab that had over a hundred containment tanks, that held her species; her family. They were slaves to the humans, and they were treated horribly for the gift of immortality to be passed down to buyers. A man came whistling his way into the lab and made his way to the tank that contained Raven. He eyed her. She was nearly naked, which she was only covered up by leather flaps that fell to her chest, and another one that covered her crotch area. “Ready to work?” the man asked with a smirk. “Fuck off!” Raven shouted angrily as she turned around, putting her back towards the man. “Oh c'mon Raven! We can't be friends after how long I've been feeding you and taking care of you?” The man asked. “Fuck off!” Raven repeated loudly. “You're in a grouchy mood; I'll just pull someone else from the tanks run some tests on them.” The man who Raven only knew him by Dr. Richards, walked his way to the back of the lab. Within ten minutes, he returned with a tall and slender woman strapped to a gurney. Raven's eyes widened. It was her mother. “Leave her.” Raven growled angrily. Raven's mother laid unconscious as Dr. Richards wheeled her closer to Raven's tank. Dr. Richards pulled out a syringe from one of the nearby cabinets. He placed the large needle near the mother's neck. “Leave her!” Raven shouted, slamming her fist into the hard tank glass, sending a crack down the center. Dr. Richards froze for a moment. Raven's dark red eyes stared deeply into the cracks of the glass. “That glass is supposed to be unbreakable.” Dr. Richards whispered to himself. Raven began sending kicks to the glass at lightning speeds and with more impact came more fractures.“Guards!” Dr. Richards screamed. “Guards! We have a breach!” Suddenly the containment tank glass exploded, sending shards scattering throughout the lab. Dr. Richards fell to the ground to shield himself and as things seemed still, he took a slow deep breath. He can feel something standing behind him. He can hear it breathing heavily. Angry. Hungry. For revenge. He snapped his head to the rear to see Raven standing above him. “Guards! Help!” he shouted before Raven lifted him up off the ground and tossed him across the lab, sending him slamming into a metal wall. Like a cat, she leaped with incredible agility and landed on top of Dr. Richards, her sharp claws growing and sinking deep into Dr. Richards chest. “Release them all!” she hissed. “You don't have a lot of time before those guards storm in here and put your ass down, so I suggest you stop your hostile actions or you'll be put to sleep!” Dr. Richards explained, who was staring at Raven's nails dug into his chest, blood heavily staining his white lab coat. There were loud foot steps clamoring into the lab. “Get off the doctor right now!” one of the dozens of armed guards screamed as they all pointed their rifles. “Let them go! They've hurt no one! We haven't hurt anyone for centuries!” Raven screamed desperately. “Hands up!” the guard screamed, sighting in on the vampire girl. Raven flipped through the air and the gunmen opened fire. She spun through the air, dodging each round and came down on the clump of guards with a vicious arsenal of spinning kicks. She made it to her feet and quickly disarmed one of the guards. She pointed the rifle and unloaded with a spray of rounds, taking down half of the force of gunmen. One of the gunmen gripped her by her hair. Raven grabbed the gunman's arm and pulled hard, ripping his shoulder out of his socket. She then pulled him to the ground and stomped on his head with her bare feet, crushing his skull. Another guard came at Raven with fast knees, but Raven was skilled and strong. She spun and elbowed the gunman in the knee, snapping it inward. She then snatched the rifle from him and shot and killed the remaining guards. Dr. Richards stared off at the carnage Raven left. She was beyond amazing. She and her species were a blessing to mankind. Dr. Richards knew this and the risk of her escaping and getting killed was a risk he didn't want to take. He attempted to get to his feet. Raven sprinted towards him with a powerful kick to the chest. Dr. Richards slammed back on to the lab floor. “You alone are worth more if you remained here.” he pleaded. “None of us will remain here. We aren't slaves.” Raven snarled. Raven froze for a second. She could hear more men. Reinforcements were coming. Raven flipped herattention off of Dr. Richards and took off through the building halls. She entered the stair way. As she made it up a few stairs, she could see over two dozen gunmen chasing her up through the stairway. In her head there was one way for her to escape. She climbed the stairs through the 25 story building and popped open a hatch in the ceiling. She climbed through it and now she was at the top of the building. She crept to the edge as the men busted through the hatch and slowly pointed their rifles at the escaped vampire. “Return to the lab and you will not be harmed!” the lead gunman demanded. “My species will be freed, mark my words.” Raven said before she gracefully dived off of the building. The wind swept past her body, sending her long black hair fluttering wildly. She could feel growth ripping out the skin of her back. It was her wings, struggling to free themselves. Raven screamed in agony as the wings, tore out from the sides of her back. Her wings caught the wind, and she took off into the horizon. Rodney watched on as Julia exited the home with the drunk man in handcuffs. She escorted the man to a police vehicle and made sure he got in. As she shut the car door, Rodney approached her. “Did I miss anything out here?” she asked with a smirk. “I hope you know the others won't be too happy about what you just did.” Rodney said in a worried tone. “I think I had everything under control.” “You put a two innocent's lives in danger. That is not under control.” “Listen rookie. Don't fucking argue with me! I did my job. What is my job? To serve and protect!” “Fine you deal with that shit when we get back to the station!” Rodney said getting into him and Julia's respective trooper. Julia smiled and got into the driver's seat of the vehicle. “You hungry?” she asked. The two took off and parked at a gas station not too far away. Julia finally came out of the station store with a hot dog and drink in her hands. She climbed back into the car. “Are you sure you're not hungry?” she asked. Rodney said nothing. His eyes were glued upon a woman, slowly lying down in the middle of the street. “What the hell?” he muttered. Julia eyed the down woman. Rodney went to open his door. “Wait.” Julia whispered. “I have to see what's wrong with her?” Rodney said, concerned. “No.” Julia started. “I'll go.” Julia slowly exited the vehicle and walked across the gas station to the main road. She made it closer to the downed woman who looked to behalf naked. Julia pulled out her flashlight and shined it on the woman. She was pale and motionless. Julia went to a knee and nudged the woman on the shoulder. Suddenly the woman's head snapped up. Her eyes were black and her teeth were very long and sharp. She roared viciously, then lunged at Julia. Julia threw herself back but the strange woman wrapped her arms around Julia and hopped maybe 7 feet into the air. Julia; caught in a mixture of shock and confusion, elbowed the crazed woman in the jaw. The woman dropped her and Julia came crashing down hard into the street, landing on her shoulder. The crazed woman ran at Julia with a hard kick and then she lunged her face at Julia's neck. The psychotic woman savagely dug her teeth into Julia's neck, ripping deeply into her skin and throat. Julia screamed and gasped as the woman was literally sucking her dry. The woman had Julia by the neck like a wild cat possessing it's prey and the officer was completely paralyzed by fear, and shock. Blood squirted and poured from Julia's neck as the crazy woman's face and chest became drenched with it. A gunshot went off and popped the woman in the head which made her drop Julia from it's mouth. The head shot knocked the woman back, but she was still standing. She hissed loudly, blood and saliva falling from her mouth. She then turned around and sprinted off into the darkness. Rodney holstered his weapon and rushed over to Julia who was breathing heavily and losing blood from her neck fast. Rodney whipped out his radio. “This is Officer Wilson. I have an officer down!” he shouted frantically into the radio. Julia was motionless but her eyes remained wide opened. “I can hear.” Julia whispered. Her eyes peeled open to the view of a hospital room. She slowly sat up. “What can you hear?” asked Rodney who was standing near her bed. Accompanying him was the West Palm Police Chief, Captain Clark. “Everything.” she whispered. The sounds, the light, the images around her were different as she woke. Everything seemed amplified. She could smell aromas from miles away. She could hear the radios from passing vehicles all the way outside. She could see every single tiny detail on Rodney's face. “This is fucking trippy.” she said rubbing her hand across her neck. There was a large bandage wrapped across where she was bit. “We almost lost you out there.” Captain Clark said. “That woman, when she bit me, it felt like she was eating me, I couldn't move.” Julia said. “I had a shot on her but she escaped.” Rodney said. “You missed her?” “No. That's the thing. I hit her in the head, then she took off.” Julia raised her eyebrows. A doctor entered the room. He held a clipboard in his hand and glanced atJulia with a smile. “Glad to see you awake Officer Jensen. You lost a significant amount of blood.” the doctor explained. “We tested you and found that there was nothing out of the ordinary, so the woman who bit you was probably some lunatic, but she didn't have any strange viruses or anything.” “Well that's good news we needed to hear.” Captain Clark said proudly. “So when will I be able to leave?” Julia asked. “I'd give it another day just to let it heal up a bit. Whatever was wrong with this woman, she manage to take a really good bite out of you.” “Alright Dr. Thank you.” Julia said before the Dr. nodded and left out of the room. “Don't know what we're going to do without you for another day Jensen.” Captain Clark said with a chuckle. “I'm sure the streets will be watched overly carefully.” The evening had come. Julia was now alone, asleep and sweating heavily. Her bite wound was throbbing intensely. Something was wrong. Was it a disease? Did she contract something that the doctors couldn't see? Julia shot up out of her sleep, panting. Her heart rate was through the roof, and her eyes were blood red. Her nails had grown longer and her canines were distinctively longer. She popped out of her bed and ran into the bathroom, staring at herself in the mirror. “What's happening to me!?” she screamed in terror. “You're one of us now.” said a voice behind her, outside the bathroom. Julia poked her head out to see a short girl with long hair sitting on her bed. It was Raven “How did you get in here?” Julia asked in shock. “The window was open.” Raven pointed out. “We're on the third floor.” “Couldn't go in through the front. Flying seemed better.” “What?” Julia asked, confused. “Sorry about the wound. If I would have finished, you'd wouldn't be here right now.” Raven explained. “You fucking bit me! What the fuck were you trying to...” Julia stopped talking and then began hyperventilating. Raven shot up from the bed and walked over to Julia, holding her up. “You need to feed.” she said. “What the fuck are you talking about?!” Julia snapped, snatching away. “As a vampire you need to satisfy yourself.” Raven explained. “Wait a minute. You bit me, to turn me into a vampire?!” Julia asked. “No! I attacked you because I needed to feed. You would have been a dead, dried upcarcass if your partner didn't show up.” “So I'm a vampire?” Julia asked with a laugh of disbelief. “You are. You can't resist your urges. No matter what you do, you will feed.” “Just get out!” Julia shouted. Raven smiled and hopped out of the window. Julia ran and stared out of the window to see Raven land gracefully on the ground and walk off. Lucy Lawke, the brains before the Vampire Lab, sat at a table across from Dr. Richards in a small office. The woman held a syringe in her hand. She injected a silver fluid into her shoulder, and her brown eyes flickered red for a few seconds, then returned to it's original color. “So with her out and about, how do you plan on getting her back?” the woman said with a strong exhale. “How much of that have you been injecting into your body?” Dr. Richards asked. “Enough, why?” Lucy snapped. “Too much of the mutated vampire blood can have disturbing results?” “I'm aware of that. Are you aware that a million dollars worth of progress is out running free?!” Lucy shouted angrily, shooting out of her seat. “I am aware, that is why I engineered a hunter. A creature formed by mixing the blood of vampires and various carnivorous beasts. The mutation was grotesque but astounding.” Dr. Richards explained. “How is this suppose to help us?” Lucy asked. “This creature is built to hunt and capture vampires.” Dr. Richards said with a menacing smile. “Let's see it.” Lucy said. The two entered a heavily secured chamber that contained a massive hibernation capsule. Inside of it was a monstrous creature that had four massive arms crossed against it's body. It's head and face resembled that of a saber tooth tiger. It's mane was a fiery red and it's snout had multiple horns protruding from it. The beast had the body of a ripped and heavily muscled ape and it's fingers had nine inch nails coming from them. It's legs were hind and it's feet resembled a hawk's talons, but larger. “I call him Odontotyrannos or Odon for short.” Dr. Richards said. His smile displayed the pure pride he had in his creation. He rubbed Odon's mane and brushed his small hands against the sleeping beast's enormous biceps. “I want that vampire back here. If anyone is involved and discovers what she is, kill them.” Lucy ordered. “Like a dog to it's master, it will obey orders.” Dr. Richards smiled. “Wake it and let it sniff her out.”Dr. Richards pulled a syringe from underneath the sleeping capsule and injected a blue liquid into the engineered beast. The beast growled loudly as it's eyes opened and glowed red. It sat up and wings ripped out from it's back. “Beautiful.” Dr. Richards whispered to himself. “Find the vampire. Capture it.” he ordered. Odon roared loudly, it's cry echoing through the labs.
